New municipal stadium
Siena
Architecture Competition
In the design of the new municipal stadium, particular attention has been paid to giving the architectural organism a strong emotional impact and appeal, even in the greatest respect with the surrounding area. The building, in fact, does not impose itself in the landscape, but develops a dynamic and vigorous dialogue with the naturalistic episodes that surround it, characterized by the elegant movements of soft hills in a morphology among the most suggestive of the Tuscan territory.
In the planning, we tried to follow a conception of the architectural work not as an overlap of an element on the landscape, but as an organism that is born from the landscape and interacts with it. This organism, having its own “structure” and “density”, develops a dialogue with its place, modifying it almost naturally, embracing it with vibrations and movements.
As for a stone lying on the bank of a river, the seabed naturally takes shape around it due to the flow of water that flows around it, so it was thought to develop the tension of the natural landscape around the stadium, starting from the action of those flows that make it an architectonic machine capable of performing its functions in the best possible way.
